All Rights Reserved Raffle 4 Rescue 2023

I am walking ….you heard me right, I am WALKING in Big East Akita Rescue’s Whisker Walk to raise money for Akitas in need. Many of you know of my passion for this breed and that I’ve been involved with their rescue for 20 years.

Currently, we have 2 Akita sisters, Ava & Zsa Zsa. They came to us at 1.5 years old due to the death of their guardian. They are an incredibly bonded pair and needed to stay together. When I saw their picture my heart leapt and I knew we had to meet them. We had lost our last Akita several months prior.

The tricky part is that I was always a 2 dog person but when I met my husband, I only had 1 Akita. I’d beg him for another and he’d say, “We are NEVER having two. It’s twice the work, twice the fur, and twice the cost!”

I showed him the picture of the girls and he said, “Let’s go meet them.”

When we got to the kennel and the dogs were brought out, Ava immediately jumped on  my husband and wrapped her paws around him as if to say, “You, you are my person!” It was instant love and it couldn’t have come at a better time. My husband had recently had cancer surgery and was going through radiation. The girls brought joy to his life and gave him a reason to keep moving.

On January 6th of this year, I had a massive stroke and was only given a 50% chance of survival. My biggest goal during my rehabilitation was to be able to walk my dogs again. I truly believe I am alive because my work here isn’t done. My girls gave me the incentive to work harder at my recovery. I am so filled with gratitude that I have been given a second chance and this is part of my mission, facilitating the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs in need.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, help me honor second chances by donating to my Whisker Walk team to give more Akitas a second chance at love and safety. Thank you for your support.
